About Us

The Ebrington Arms was built in 1610. The builder left his dated hand print in the attic. The 1610 part of the pub is mainly unchanged but the tree trunk beams and mud and straw walls have been sympathetically added to over the years.  The pub has never had a modern ‘makeover’, it has evolved.

We, Ronnie and Cathy Moncrieff (Landlord and Chef) bought the Ebrington Arms five years ago. Tina (our daughter, now also a trained chef) left university too join us a couple of months later, when we realised that our retirement project was going to be much bigger than Ronnie pulling a few pints and giving me a shout down to cook the odd meal now and again.

This was our first venture into the pub industry and we knew nothing about running a pub. This was probably a good thing, as we have allowed our customers to steer our business and, like the building, it has ‘evolved’.

We now serve upwards of 500 meals per week, all freshly prepared daily by out team of 7 Chefs.

Enjoy your meal in our bar; comfortable, warm and interesting, where, at the open fire end of the bar the beams hold a beer mat collection that landlords have been adding to since the 1960’s.  In the middle bar area look up and you will see the coins of the World War II soldiers and airmen, who pushed money into the beams for a pint of beer on their return from duty.

If you prefer a slightly more formal setting you may wish to dine in our small cosy restaurant which seats just 32 people.  In the summer you may prefer to eat outdoors, our patio area has seating and an awning in case of rain. The large garden with its picnic benches and children’s play equipment is ideal for enjoying a family meal on a sunny day.

Ronnie takes pride in a well stocked bar and there is always a choice of six Real Ales to choose from. The whisky shelf is continually growing and to date contains 19 different malts.

To help us to serve you, we employ twenty two wonderful people (mostly part time), who will offer you a very warm welcome and do their best to make your visit memorable.
